Flood-Like Situation Grips Delhi: Rain Alert, Tragic Drowning, and Waterlogging

In recent news, the weather office in Delhi has issued a 'yellow' alert for moderate rain and thundershowers on Saturday, adding to the challenges faced by parts of the city already grappling with a flood-like situation. On Friday, various areas, including Laxmi Nagar, Ayanagar, Lodhi Road, Mungeshpur, and some localities in east Delhi, experienced light rainfall. Lutyens' Delhi also witnessed a light drizzle.

Tragically, three boys lost their lives in northwest Delhi's Mukundpur Chowk area when they drowned in a ditch at a metro construction site while bathing in floodwaters. The boys, identified as Nikhil (10), Piyush (13), and Ashish (13), hailed from Jahangirpuri in northeast Delhi.

The flood-like situation persists in Delhi, with numerous areas facing waterlogging. Videos shared by the news wire agency PTI showcased waterlogging in ITO and the Rajghat area.

In response to the circumstances, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) announced that the Red Fort would remain closed to the public and visitors until further notice.

The water level in the Yamuna river has broken a 45-year-old record, reaching 208.6 meters on Thursday. The previous record of 207.49 meters was set on September 6, 1978. Consequently, the flood has prompted the evacuation of thousands of individuals from low-lying areas, and several roads have been closed to traffic due to water inundation.

To aid in rescue and evacuation efforts, at least 12 teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed in Delhi.
